RANDY JONES

Randy was born and raised in a small town in central Kentucky named Liberty where his family had settled 200 years ago.  In 1976 he moved to Fairfield, Ohio (a suburb of Cincinnati) where he finished high school in 1979.  Seeking warmer weather, Randy moved to Athens, Georgia in the fall and attended the University of Georgia.  With gold and silver at record high prices, he started working at a local coin shop in December.   He had always been around coins and money helping out at the various businesses of his extended family and collected coins growing up.  The shop also bought jewelry which allowed him to study the value of jewelry.  In 1983 Randy graduated from UGA with a BBA in finance and worked for 5 years as a bank examiner (auditor) for the Georgia Department of Banking and Finance.  At the same time, Randy also was active with his jewelry business buying and liquidating jewelry.  After 5 years, Randy was able to leave banking and go full time into the jewelry business.  His career has been in jewelry ever since including selling opals for several years when he lived in Australia.  After his wife’s death in Australia in January 1996, he returned to the US and opened Global Gems in Chamblee
